Travel

Getting there

By the aero-plane

Boston Logan is the easiest airport to fly into; from Boston, Etna is a two-hour drive north. Manchester airport is about one hour closer.

Cape Air also offers short flights from Boston to Lebanon, NH, which is 15 minutes  outside of Etna.

By combustion-drawn omnibus

The Dartmouth Coach offers a (very pleasant) bus directly from Boston (Logan airport and South Station) to Hanover and Lebanon, NH – the towns directly next to Etna.

By personal carriage

All the typical car rentals are available at Logan. We’ve also had success with Turo car rentals, which have proven much more affordable.

To do

What to do

Visit Dartmouth College

Famed Ivy League college founded in 1769. Their mascot is a moose... or a keg, not sure.

*Check out the Orozco mural in the Baker Library!

Go hiking!

Take in verdant forests, lakes, and really really tall hills the locals call "mountains."

*The Appalachian Trail is walking distance from Carly's parents' house and also goes through downtown Hanover.

Stock up on flour

King Arthur Flour headquarters is right across the river in Norwich, VT.

*Great cafe. Beware, gluten lives here.

Visit quaint Vermont

Covered bridges, bearded people, cheese, and dilapidated barns

*Woodstock is the quintessential Vermont small town, 30 minutes away.

See glassware being made

Watch people puff expensive glassware into existence in an old mill beside a covered bridge.

*Showroom/store, bar and restaurant with great food, overlooks the river and waterfall

Observe birds of prey

VINS is the permanent home of golden eagles, falcons, and owls that have been injured.

*Great for kids and adults (except Michele)

Nerd out

Local museum of life and science with exhibits and walking trails.

*Obviously a great kid option

Shop like a local

Hit up the Saturday morning farmer's market in Norwich, just across the river from Hanover.

*Bruce recommends the pickles.

Details

Details!

Welcome drinks

Rest and replenish your spirit after your travels with an ale at the Norwich Inn (325 Main St., Norwich, VT 05055) from 7 to 9pm. Shuttles will be provided (see below).

How should one adorn their body?

Fun summer cocktail attire. Aquire that thing you have always wanted but didn't have an excuse to get.

Think colorful jumpsuits, summery florals, breathable linens, that girded tunic you've wanted to barter the goat herder for. Just no peasant jeans.

Are wee ones invited?

No, who else would be tending your crops and feeding your animals while you revel?

Should they be yet weened and not yet fit for their first harvest and thus in your company, we can help finding an elder to watch over them during the festivities. Contact Sean, Carly, or Mary (but preferably Carly or Mary).

Parking and transport

Shuttles will be running to and from both the Friday and Saturday events, picking up at all main lodging areas (Hanover, Lebanon, and Lyme). It's our wish to make these celebrations carefree, and Ubers are scarce in such remote country, especially after the recent plague.

Additionally, both venues have limited parking and stables, so shuttles are your optimal choice. There is a 10 hr parking lot as well as a parking garage in Hanover near the shuttle pickup. Full details and schedules will be posted prior to the events.

Shuttle schedule

It is now prior to the events, hence please see link for shuttle schedules to and from Friday welcome drinks and the ceremony and reception on Saturday.
